This time, a participant in our Homestay in Japan program is a 16-year-old male high school student from Australia with a background in Japanese.
Taking advantage of Australia’s long summer vacation, he participated in a program in Fukuoka that combined a one-week homestay experience with Japanese language learning.

Usually, he studies Japanese online once a week, but he expressed a desire to learn more about Japan. Therefore, we arranged a homestay for him to experience the real life of Japanese people!
We had provided information about the host family beforehand, and his heart was pounding until he met them face to face.
The host family consisted of five members: the parents and their three children. They were incredibly kind and welcoming.

He arrived on a Saturday night, so after a quick rest, the next day, the host family took him to Dazaifu.

Coincidentally, it was the host mother’s birthday, so they enjoyed a delicious meal at a lovely restaurant.

Starting Monday, he took a 40-minute bus ride alone from the host family’s home to the Japanese language school for lessons.
Given the short one-week duration, he opted for private lessons tailored to his specific Japanese learning needs.
During lunch breaks, he bought bento boxes from Japanese convenience stores or dined at local eateries.
Since it was the period leading up to Christmas, the school held Christmas events, allowing him to experience Japanese Christmas traditions, which differ from those in Australia.
The week flew by, and he expressed a strong desire to study Japanese further and stay longer in Japan! He was delighted with the wonderful experience.
Sumire Homestay in Japan program has partnerships with several schools. We highly encourage you to participate in a homestay and immerse yourself in the authentic Japanese experience.
