Student Voice: A 14-Year-Old Australian Student’s Homestay Experience in Japan

We are delighted to share the experience of Alison, a 14-year-old student from Australia, who joined our homestay program in Japan from December 28, 2025 to January 18, 2026.

🏠 Warm and Welcoming Homestay
During her three-week stay, Alison lived with the Saito and Yayoi family in the Saitama/Tokyo area. She described her homestay experience as β€œvery welcoming and comfortable.”

Living with a local family allowed her to experience daily life in Japan while feeling safe and supported throughout her stay.

πŸ—Ό Exploring Japan
Alison especially enjoyed visiting Akihabara, Shinjuku, and Kawaguchi.

She shared that these places were meaningful because they were where she spent most of her time, shopped for items, and truly experienced everyday life in Japanβ€”particularly in Kawaguchi, where she stayed the longest.

πŸ—£οΈ Challenges and Growth
One of the most challenging aspects of her stay was communicating with people outside the host family.

However, this challenge became a valuable learning opportunity. Alison said she greatly enjoyed interacting with people, improving her Japanese language skills, and building confidence in her overall communication.

🌏 A Life-Changing Experience
Reflecting on her time in Japan, Alison shared that the experience helped her learn more about the world and how to manage independently.

She described her stay as both rewarding and empowering, giving her a new perspective and personal growth at a young age.

πŸ’¬ Her Recommendation
Alison highly recommends this homestay program to β€œanyone who wants a taste of life in Japan, or anyone looking for an adventure or a push into the world.”

✨ We are proud to support young students like Alison in discovering Japan through safe, meaningful homestay and school experiences.
